Preparing For An Engineering Program
One will have to start preparing for the engineering undergraduate course from high school. Good background knowledge on algebra, geometry, physics and chemistry will help you with the course. Grading in Colleges
The grading system involves assessing continuously and assigning grades for every course that is taken. Every effort put in a course will have an affect on the final score. Assignments, test scores, attendance, participation, etc. will all be counted for the final score. As it is a continuous evaluation, a lapse will prove costly of you plan to score high. A to D are the passing scores while F indicates fail. To have a fair idea on the performance throughout the course, the GPA is drawn which is the Grade Point Average. The GPA scale can be 4 or 5.
Funding of Educational Institutions in US
The public institutions get funded by the fees paid by the students and by the state. The amount of funding obtained from the state will differ from state to state. Public schools that are covered under compulsory education do not charge any fee to the students. High school students are required to be practice physical education and to learn a foreign language. The students are given a grade which has 4 grades and a fail. The number of students getting enrolled into college after high school has been steadily increasing over the past few decades.
Graduate Record Examination
GRE is an aptitude test which needs to be taken by a Bachelor degree holder who aspires to get into a Master’s degree course or a doctorate. It tests your readiness to take up graduate work. The GRE assesses the students in three sections which include an aptitude test, test on the chosen discipline and a writing assessment. Every university can have its own score requirement for admitting students. Some colleges will have a few other criteria that are taken into consideration before allotting a seat for the student. Graduate programs, fellowships and business schools use these scores.

As there have been incidents of students shooting in schools, there is usually a police officer in school to check for firearms and to prevent any other disruptions. A full time or a part time nurse is appointed for all schools to attend to the sick or the injured in schools. The terrorist attacks have also instigated better security systems and preparedness for any such attacks. Most schools have drills for fires and they are practiced regularly. A lot of efforts are made and new technology is used to make sure the schools and colleges provide a safe study environment.
Cost Involved With Higher Education
Most students do not pursue higher education because of the lack of financial resources. Student loans and scholarships are widely used by students. Scholarships are offered by universities themselves, federal government and sometimes by private lenders. In general the fees charged by private institutions are higher than the public institutions. Out of state students are generally charged higher than the local students. The fees charged on the course depend on the university and the program you are planning to join. Some additional fees are collected for board, health insurance, etc. in some colleges.
Professional Education
After obtaining the Bachelor degree, one can pursue the Master’s degree. Masters can be obtained in Arts, Science, Business Administration, Education and Fine Arts. A degree called as Specialist in Education can be pursued which is in between a master’s degree and a doctoral degree. A doctoral degree can also be obtained after a few years of additional study after the master’s degree is obtained. In order to get into a graduate program, the students’ scores in standardized tests are given prime importance. In addition to these scores, undergraduate marks are also considered. Business schools have a preference for those with work experience for these programs.
Undergraduate Studies
The field in which one specializes is called the major and if you choose to major in two fields, it is called as a double major. Bachelor of Science, Engineering, Arts, Fine Arts, Social Work and Philosophy are the undergraduate degrees that can be pursued for four years. You can also pursue a 5 year course to get a Bachelor of Architecture degree. You can also do a 2 year course in a community college to get an Associate degree after which you can transfer to another college for the next two years to get the Bachelor’s degree.
